The Green Hornet

2011 - 3.3/5

***SPOILER ALERT***

Plot: B-
Britt Reid’s (Seth Rogan) father passes away which leaves him as the new publisher of The Daily Sentinel (a Los Angeles newspaper company). He becomes acquainted with Kato (Jay Chou), which was his fathers mechanic, and the only person that can make a good cup of coffee. After Britt and Kato fend off robbers, they decide to start fighting crime as masked superhero’s The Green Hornet and the un-named sidekick.

Script: B-
It didn’t have an amazing screenplay, but there were some good lines; for example, Britt: “I can blow this guy to any proportion I want”.
The pronunciation of ‘Chudnofsky’ as a running joke wasn’t overplayed, so it remained funny each time it came up.
It was rated PG, so there wasn’t as much crude humor as other Seth Rogan films, but I guess the movie was trying to appeal to a larger crowd.

Acting: B+
First things first, I love James Franco and I had zero idea he had a cameo in this movie! (I heard he wasn’t credited because he did it for free). I also didn’t know Cameron Diaz (as Lenore) was in this movie too, although it was pointed out to me that she was in the trailer. She’s a good actress and she played her role very well; her role in this did remind me of her role in The Mask (1994).
I have pretty much liked every movie that Seth Rogan has stared in (Knocked Up, Superbad, Zack & Miri Make A Porno and Pineapple Express + others that he’s had a smaller role).
Jay Chou isn’t a big name in Hollywood, but he pulled the role off really well.
Christoph Waltz played the role of Chudnofsky very well, but the character itself wasn’t that great!

Overall: B-
Good amount of (well done) action – albeit over the top, but that’s exactly what I was expecting. The explosions, fistfights, gunfights, and gadgets on the car were pretty cool and well created.
I wouldn’t say that that the 3D added anything to the movie and I found that I was looking over my 3D glasses a few times throughout the movie. If you have the option to watch it in regular 2D, I would recommend doing so.
The costumes were nice and nothing excessive was added just for kicks.
It had some good songs that went well with whatever scene it was paired with.
I always thought that Pineapple Express was the closest thing that Rogan would get to an action flick, but I was proved wrong.
