Captain Phillips

2013 - 0/5

Perhaps I went in with… well, I can’t say “high expectations”, but I guess, just expectations of some degree.

Attempting to name reasons as to why I don't like is on par with pulling teeth. To say the very least, I did not enjoy this movie at all. Can we leave it at that and just move on?

That Awkward Moment

2014 - 1.2/5

It’s a chick-flick wrapped in a dude-flick coating. It’s a guys side of the story of the rom-com. It just screamed generic. It followed the typical rom-com pattern without any originality.

The dialogue wasn’t the greatest. There were a couple of running jokes that weren’t even funny (Daniel going to the washroom in Jason’s place). I will admit that I did get a few laughs, but nothing memorable.

None of the actors really suited their characters. The majority of them never truly embodied their character and that took me out of it. I pretty much didn’t like the entire cast because they didn’t fit their roles.

So this may come as a surprise to some people, but Zac Efron seemed out of his comfort zone with his character Jason. I don’t see him as a witty guy to play that character. Yes he was easy on the eyes, but realistically, he shouldn’t have been in this movie.

I never heard of Michael B Jordan before this movie, and I did hear that he was really good in Fruitvale Station. When it comes to this movie, I didn’t like his acting at all. I think he was overdoing it. The character pretty much only existed as a means to have the 3 guys make a pact to stay single.

Miles Teller as Daniel was the wild card. He was the most entertaining actor and character to watch. The most interesting relationship was that of Daniels and Chelsea’s. When his lines came out of his mouth, it was easy to believe that he was Daniel.

All in all, it was mildly entertaining. It was trying to make itself seem better than it was. Don’t see this in theatres.
