Se7en

1995 – 4.3/5

I was in the mood to watch a really good movie and this did not disappointed. It was eerie right from the get-go and every detail was so perfect. I think the only thing I didn’t like was the ‘rain’; it seemed very fake.

It took about 54 minutes to get to the third Sin; so it makes you wonder, there’s 4 left; how much longer is this going to take. This movie doesn’t drag at any point though.

Acting by all parties was incredible. Watching Brad Pitt in his super hot days: awesome! Morgan Freeman was brilliant as usual. Kevin Spacey’s performance was stunning.

Random points:
-It makes you think that the Saw series was based on this movie.
-I liked how the credits went from the top down and not the other way around.

***SPOILER ALERT***
The case scene about an hour and ten minutes in was intense. One part of me wanted Mills to catch him, but the other part didn’t. There were 4 more sins and you can’t call this movie ‘Seven’ without having all 7 sins.

Suicide Kings

1997 – 2.3/5

Christopher Walken being one of my favourite actors, I knew I had to eventually see this movie. This was the second time I’ve seen this movie and although I didn’t remember much from my first viewing, I knew that I liked it a lot. This time however, I thought it was good, but not as good.

I had no problems with Walken. He was solid as always. He’s a very reliable actor and he fully embraced the character. Christopher Walken as a Mob boss. I was sold!

The next best person would have had to been Denis Leary. His character Lono, reminded me of his character in the movie Judgment Night. If you liked him in this then I would recommend you see Judgment Night (if you already haven’t).

Considering there were a lot of different people involved with the kidnapping, I don’t want to get too detailed about each character. I do think each had enough screen time in the sense that the viewer got to know just enough information about each in order to keep you guessing about who might be the person on the inside. That’s not to say that I think each character was fully developed. With that being said, I also want to say that some of the personalities were a tad bit overdone; Ira for example was so annoying (but then again, the majority of Johnny Galecki’s characters are like that).

My biggest grip about the movie would have to be the lack of connection I felt with Avery, Brett, T.K., Ira, ect. It was hard to form a bond with them and care about their well-being. The characters weren’t introduced well, so it was hard to care for any of them, and I ended up rooting for Charles and Lono.

I will admit that I kept guessing the entire time about which character was the one that set it all up, and I liked that about the movie. But at the same time, when the movie ended and everything was revealed, I have to say that it didn’t have much of an impact. Basically what I’m trying to say is that it’s not a movie that will leave you thinking long after the movie is over.

People Like Us

2012 – 2/5

Although I had little interest to see this movie, I knew my mom would like it because it was based on a true story. Being the youngest person in the theatre, with 5 other people (including my mom), I took my seat in the new reclining chairs and spent just under 2 hours to watch this movie.

When it comes to a movie that is ‘based on a true story’, I keep in mind that in order for this movie to be even remotely entertaining, some facts are tweaked or other aspects are added in that aren’t actually true. The reason I bring this up is because, at times, I felt as if what I was seeing on screen wasn’t true. I do believe that the basic plot is true: that Sam found out he had a sister after his father died; BUT I don’t exactly buy the money issues that Sam was going through. I can’t really put my finger on it, but this was the first time I’ve ever watched a ‘based on a true story’ movie and called ‘bullshit’. I really felt as if Sam’s money issues was just there to add more drama to the movie. For all I know, it could be true, but I think its fair to say that Hollywood is known to bullshit.

All that crap (haha) aside, do I think this was a good movie? Well, it wasn’t horrible. I didn’t think it was very entertaining. I thought it was a nice story, but that’s about it. This movie was very predictable and as the movie progressed, you knew where it was going. I found myself thinking “OK, I get it. Move on” several times during this movie. Pretty much the entire movie is Sam building a relationship with half-sister Frankie and her son Josh, without having told either one that they’re related.

I can’t help but think that the director was expecting this movie to get as much praise as The Blind Side for being a heartfelt true story. I don’t see that happening mainly because this movie only has one late night showing in theatres and it’s only been in theatres for 2 weeks!

I would have to say the strongest part of this movie was the acting. There weren’t a whole lot of characters, but considering the plot, there didn’t need to be. I thought that Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks were believable as brother and sister and that they each did a great job with their roles; Banks more than Pine. I really didn’t like Frankie’s (Banks) son Josh. The kid annoyed me every time he was on screen. But at the same time I think he did a spot on impression of kids these days: rude brats. Michelle Pfeiffer did a good job with her character, but she didn’t have a huge role.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mom’s review:
-It was a really good movie.
-Sam was trying to make a meaningful connection with his half-sister and nephew.
-Sam really tried to help Frankie with her issues.
-The communication between Sam and Frankie was the best part.

Oliver & Company

1988 – 2.9/5

It was a cute movie.
The characters (the animals) were cute.
Oliver was very cute and probably my favourite character.
The songs were cute too! But I also thought they all sounded alike.
The animation was good.
The plot was average.
I enjoyed it, but I don’t think I could watch it again.

Wanderlust

2012 – 0.8/5

First off, I want to say that I’m glad I didn’t see this in theatres. Secondly, I also want to mention that I understand why it has a 5.7/10 rating on IMDB.

The movie started out okay. It had some good bits, but it went downhill fast. If you breakdown to the basics of the plot, it was very unoriginal.

This was not a laugh out loud movie. There was only one part that I did laugh, but I don’t even remember it. This movie was not memorable.

The nudity and drug use that made this movie rated R wasn’t even funny. I just wanted it to end.

I can see why Paul Rudd would be in a movie like this; these kinds of characters suit him, but it was a dumb movie.

There was more than one time in which I thought this was ridiculous: George talking to himself in the mirror. It was awkward, it wasn’t funny. I just kept waiting for his rambling to stop.

Pretty much every character, aside from George and Linda, were over the top, obnoxious or stupid.

I didn’t think that Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston would be a good pair, but they were a good couple. They were probably the only thing that actually worked in this movie.

There were some points in which I could see what the director was trying to accomplish, but it just didn’t work out the way it was intended to.

It was a wanna-be Judd Apatow movie. WanderBUST is more like it.

***SPOILER ALERT***
When Linda decides she wants to stay at Elysian, she agrees to the ‘free love’ idea. I wasn’t expecting her to jump into bed with Seth right away! It was just absurd! Does she not have ANY morals? Does she not understand that even though you agreed to it, you don’t have to participate RIGHT AWAY?
