Wreck it Ralph 2

2018 - 4/5

I'd be lying if i said I was going into this movie without any expectations. It's no surprise that I'm a HUGE Disney fan and I absolutely LOVED the first one, so for me to say that I have no expectations is a lie that you'd be able to smell!

Short review:
I loved this movie. I cried (obviously). I want to watch it again. I will be buying this.

Actual (point-form) review:
The portrayal of the Internet was so well done, and how people connect and get disconnected. The concept was captured very well.
They were able to fit in aspects of the plot very well.
You could really sense the bond between Vanellope and Ralph.
Loved how the Disney Princesses were included. I more so liked how they poked fun of themselves a bit too, and were self-aware as to their own pasts.
Spamly and Gord were really good side characters for comic relief and they weren't overly used or relied on.
Knows more was a fun character! Disney was able to portray the role of a search engine so creatively.
Yes was also another good addition.
I remember liking the music and songs in the fist one, and this one was no different.
I found the move was pretty relatable with regards to Ralph and Vanellope. Be it having insecurities or feeling as if your life is on repeat.

The Girl in the Spider's Web

2018 - 0/5

So here's my short review... It sucked.

I want to say that I'm going to draw parallels from the book, BUT, there isn't anything to draw. The movie and book are SO INCREDIBLY DIFFERENT that while I was watching the movie, I was constantly saying "did I read the same book?". The only part that I knew was taken from the book is when Lisbeth says "go to bed" to the kid. I shit you not, that was legit, the only similarity between the 2. At this point I'm honestly surprised they didn't change the name of the characters!

Another point that I'd like to mention before getting into the review is that the book did have a different author than the first 3, so even this book had a different vibe to it, but I did enjoy the book much more than the movie. So if you get a chance to read the book, I'd say invest your time in doing that and skip the movie!

Okay, lets get on with the actual review!

First off, I'd like to say that I HAAAAATED the fact that, although this movie is set in Sweden, with Swedish characters (and presumably actors, I don't care to actually check), they all spoken English, but with a stupid accent. Oh my god, I can't emphasis enough how much this annoyed me. How fucking lazy can people be? They don't want to read subtitles?

Secondly, the moment the new Lisbith Salander came on screen, I hated her. I want to sit here and say that "I don't know what it was about her I didn't like", but I know exactly why I hated her. It's because it wasn't the same actor (Naomi Rapace) from the first 3. That is my image of Lisbith Salander and that is what it always will be. The girl in this movie did not act very well. She sucked. I was willing to put aside my immediate hatred for her if she did well in the role, but she didn't.

Oh, and on the topic of actors, Blomkvist and Berger were also HORRIBLE! *insert throw up emoji*. I just couldn't get into the movie because ALL the actors were bad.

As I said above, the plot of the movie didn't really follow the exact plot of the book, and I think it's fair to compare the 2, considering the movie is based off the book. The story line that the movie took was terrible. They've strayed so far away from what the first 3 books were, it's just sad to see how Hollywood'ized this has become.

Not going to lie, but the more I think about this movie, the more I hate it. Overall I think your time was better spent reading my review than watching this movie. You're welcome.

Usually when I'm done writing my review, I go onto IMDB and read the reviews of people that also hated the movie to see if we hated it for the same reason. Here are some of my favourite parts of other peoples reviews:
-How did I hate this movie? Let me count the ways. (peterwcohen-300-947200 5 November 2018)
8) Police cars arriving at crime scenes choreographed to look like dancers entering the stage in Swan Lake.
-Well..... (beautifulblu83 29 October 2018)
The first US version was disappointing. The second movie is even worse. Please save yourself the trouble and don't go see it.
-Sony please just stop. (TheOnlyEvanlarsen 9 November 2018)
Not going to write a lengthy review. Just here to say that this is NOT Lisbeth Salander...This story is taken from the book NOT written by the original author, written after his death against his families wishes.

Life of the Party

2018 - 2/5

I watched this on the plane. It's your typical Melissa McCarthy movie. I am a fan of her humour so I did like this movie. Some parts were stupid, but I did get some good laughs. This was a great waste of time being on a plane, but I find that it has no repeat value and I'd never care to watch this again. Not her best work, but it wasn't horrible to warrant never watching it if you like her.

Oceans 8

2018 - 0/5

You know when you're on a plane and you need to be entertained? Gone are the days in which you look for a movie that's actually going to be good. You really have some hope, but within the same breathe, you're stuck on a plane and probably don't have very many options - not just with regards to the movies you can watch, yes, those are limited, but in general, the things you can do. You're mostly going to be sitting on your ass the entire time, so movies are usually a good option.

With that being said, I highly urge you to avoid this movie at all costs. There is nothing about this movie that'll keep you the slightest bit entertained. It was a haphazard mess. The plot wasn't engaging, it was outright pathetic. I absolutely disliked this movie.

I do not recommend. Save yourself your time. Do not watch.

Christopher Robin

2018 - 4.5/5

I really enjoyed it. It had a cute storyline, and I found it to be so heartfelt! There were some aspects that I didn't care for, but they weren't major things. I would for sure watch this again... I'll probably just buy it when it comes out on DVD.

Alice Through the Looking Glass

2016 - 3/5

i actually enjoyed this more than i thought. i liked the storyline, and the one thing going in that i thought i would be tired of was johnny depp being johnny depp, but i actually still liked it. i don't see myself really ever watching this again, but i'm glad i did see it.

A Walk In the Woods

2015 - 1/5

Going into this, I can't help but think this is an old white-male's version of Wild. Here's hoping it's better!
I got a couple laughs outta it, but nothing that would make me recommend this movie. Basically, I'm going to forget about this movie as soon as I'm done writing this sentence.

Dismissed

2017 - 0/5

aka: teacher stalker. deserved.

spoiler alert... but lets be real, you won't be watching it anyways.

first gripe: wtf was with that "yawn". if you can't act a yawn, then you can't act.

the only good acting came from the baby.
dylan sprouse wasn't terrible, but the character/script sucked. pro: his hair.

i predicted many things (that lucas was getting that girl to write her own "suicide" note and that he'd push her off; that lucas would kill the wife, and hold the baby hostage; that lucas's dad was going to commit suicide; and something else that i'm currently forgetting).

the movie never really expanded on some things... like why lucas was a psychopath... what actually happened to his mom... if the dad was actually successful, and that what made it so that he knew his son was crazy... how lucas swapped mr bulter's professor application... did that chess kid die in chem class, or was he just seriously injured (and if he died, why wasn't there an investigation, and if he didn't die, then how is it that he didn't see lucas put drops of whatever into the petri dish?)

the detective was stupid and had he/the department questioned the "suicide" note, they would have easily noticed (especially if mr bulter pointed it out because he seemed to pick up on it) that the pen used was lucas's.

How To Be Single

2016 - 2.5/5

Rebel Wilson didn't have as huge as a role as I thought she would. It was nice, but then at the same time, it wasn't as funny as it could have been. Acting was pretty good too, and I liked how the plot remained relatively realistic and it was never cheesy. It was entertaining, but I wouldn't care to watch it again.
