Don't Say A Word

2001 - 3.2/5

I still like watching this movie even though it came out in 2001! For a movie that came out over 10 years ago, that’s saying a lot. I’m sure 10 years from now, I’d still enjoy watching this movie. That speaks volumes for how good this movie is. If you don’t want to read to the end to see what I thought overall, I’ll cut to the chase… it’s a fantastic movie. You should watch it – even if you’ve seen it before, watch it again.

Brittany Murphy was solid as Elizabeth and Michael Douglas is stellar as Nathan Conrad! They’re both amazing and they have great chemistry with one another. You want Nathan to succeed, but you don’t want it to be at the expense of Elizabeth; so you want her to have her issues resolved, but not at the expense of Nathan and his family.

As for the “bad guys”, from the get-go, you know they mean business; they’re not fooling around. I will say they are one-note; there isn’t much to them; they’re straight faced without any other characteristics.

The plot was great, it moved at a great pace, and I was entertained from start to finish. I will say there was one slight hiccup (pretty much any scene with Oliver Platt as Louis), but it didn’t take away from the movie.

Dangerous Minds

1995 - 2/5

So I felt like watching a movie along the same lines of The Descendants (2011), but I couldn't find one that gave me that vibe... but for some reason, when I glanced over Dangerous Minds on my shelf, I picked it.

I had seen this movie around the time it came out and I don't remember anything about it aside from the song Gangsta's Paradise and that I liked it.

This movie reminds me of Lean on Me (1989), Sister Act (1992) and 187 (1997). Was this movie outstandingly different? No, it still has the same plot, but at the end of the day, it works.

People like these kinds of movies and so long as they’re done well, people will continue to like them. I find that even I root for the teachers to succeed, which in turn, means that these kids succeed.

It has a good pace and the plot moves smoothly into the next bit. The acting was good and the dialogue was fine. Overall, worth the watch once.

Academy Awards 2015

Just thought because I'm watching the Oscars, I'd comment on it...

-loved NPH's intro song; he does those well; also liked Jack Black's "interruption"
-the Everything is Awesome bit was entertaining
-yay for Chris Evans :D
-still upset that The Book of Life wasn't nominated, but at least Disney took it home!
-major respect for Graham Moore - #StayWeird

Hector & the Search for Happiness

2014 - 2/5

I enjoy movies that have to do with travel and I like Simon Pegg, so I thought I’d give this a shot.

Of the 2 movies I saw this year with Rosemund Pike (this and Garbage Girl), I can easily say that I liked her better in this. I think Simon Pegg was great in this role. Usually I find that I’m not a fan of his British style comedies (mainly because I don’t really “get it”), so these are the types of rolls I like him in. This kind of reminded me of Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction.

The movie as a whole kind of had that glass ceiling affect: you can tell it tries to aims higher, but the limits have already been set for it; and sadly, this movie doesn’t break through. I think this movie tried to encompass many different aspects, but if it kept to 1, maybe 2, it may have been more hard-hitting.
